While the Valorant Tracker overlay on Overwolf is completely free, safe, and legal to use, it does come with a caveat. It can be slow and cause FPS drops—depending on your rig, at least.

Performance Impact of Valorant Tracker

Valorant's minimum specs are incredibly low for a game that looks as good as it does. The game runs fine on most laptops and PCs, requiring only 1 GB of VRAM from your graphics card, along with 4 GB of RAM and minimal CPU power. While I've felt seriously impressed having managed to install and play Valorant on every PC I've owned over the years, the moment I try to get Overwolf's Valorant Tracker on the same older rigs, I'm left with a distinctly opposite feeling.

Overwolf's Impact

The Valorant Tracker app (more specifically, Overwolf) requires a lot more power to run. According to Overwolf's site, the app requires double the amount of RAM (8GB) to run on the minimum requirements, while Overwolf recommends you dedicate a full 16GB to the program. The app also demands an unusually strong processor for just collecting and displaying data at specific times during a match. Without these specs, there's a good chance you'll be experiencing major FPS drops and sometimes even game crashes.

My point is that while you're able to play Valorant on virtually any Windows PC, you'll need a half-decent gaming rig if you're interested in using Valorant Tracker alongside your game.

Tips for Improving Valorant Tracker's Performance

Even though the tracker provides headaches when not working properly, the usefulness of the app is so substantial that most users say they'll never go back to playing Valorant without it. If your PC meets the minimum requirement to run Overwolf, here are some tips that might earn you a few more frames for your games:

  • Update your graphics drivers.
  • Check your control panel to see if any other apps are using precious performance resources.
  • Make sure you have a stable internet connection (wired Ethernet is always better than wireless).

If you don't meet the minimum requirements to run Overwolf alongside your game, and you're really keen on it, it's time for an upgrade, I'm afraid... Fortunately, nearly any first-hand upgrade you can get today will be good enough for tracking stats alongside the rest of us with no issues!
