There are several types of currency in Apex Legends, and the most desired of all are the rare Heirloom Shards used to unlock the most premium skins, items, and heirlooms for personalizing your favorite legends. These Mythic skins and heirlooms also come with their own unique animations and voice lines, but how do you get your hands on this elusive currency so you can drop some flashy new bling onto your chosen Legend? Well, unfortunately, you can't buy heirloom shards in Apex Legends—it all comes down to chance.

How to Obtain Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends
Respawn, the creators of Apex Legends, have said that the chances of getting an Heirloom Pack while opening an Apex Pack is 1 in 500, and while they've confirmed you're guaranteed to get one within the first 500 packs, actually getting 500 packs is the tricky part.
I've been playing Apex Legends casually since its launch in 2019, I'm just about to hit level 500, and I've opened maybe 220 packs over my time in the game—less than half the amount needed to guarantee an Heirloom Pack. Though the level cap in the game was recently increased to 2000, allowing players to unlock a total of 544 packs through levels alone, the grind to get there is a long one indeed, meaning casual, free-to-play players like me and (probably) you will likely get 1 chance to see those shiny red shards sitting in our inventories by the end of our Apex careers.
So how do so many people have Heirlooms and Mythical skins? Well, even though the shards themselves aren't for sale, the Apex packs that you'll need to open to get the shards can be bought in bundles from the store for a "reasonable" EA price tag, which it seems many players are happy to do to speed up the process. Players who've bought hundreds of packs have a high chance of getting the crimson currency multiple times!
