How does the matchmaking system work in Valorant?

Asked 2 years ago

I've had a few quite difficult games in Valorant that made me think something was off with the matchmaking system. So, I wanted to ask: how does it work? Like, could a gold player end up against a diamond one?

The matchmaking system in Valorant uses a hidden MMR (Match Making Rating) system to match players of similar skill levels together. It takes into account factors such as individual performance and win-loss record. While the match system does try to match players of similar ranks, it's possible for a gold player to end up against a diamond one if the system can't find an exact match.
