Will I earn Buff points if I use my VP to buy in-game skins?

Hi ya'll. I've built up a lot of VP points while playing Valorant, but no Buff points? I don't understand why. Should I be buying in-game items or cosmetics? How does this Buff point system actually work?

The Buff system earns you Buff points by completing challenges and collecting your daily rewards. Spending or earning in-game currencies or points will not earn you any extra Buff Points, but completing Buff challenges will likely lead to you leveling up and earning the points anyways, so focus on the challenges!
