How does playing with a higher-ranked player affect my rank in Valorant?

One of my colleagues from college suggest we play Valorant together, but he's much higher rank than I am. I am Gold and he's Diamond. How would this affect my rank in Valorant? Should I try to climb ranks first and play with him when we're the same rank?

It'll be tough for you, admittedly, since you'll be playing with players at a Diamond MMR which is a handful of ranks above yours. If you by chance do really well, though, your MMR will increase really quickly as you'll earn more against opponents with higher amounts than you. Sometimes being pushed into the deep end can make you a great swimmer.
